Law #7 - Learn Good Practices: Emphasize “Good” Fats; Avoid “High Fructose Corn Syrup”; Emphasize “Whole Foods” and Try to Buy Organic; Get at least 7 hours of sleep each day Emphasize “Good”
Fats This practice will go a long way towards helping you get and stay lean. Anything you buy out of a package that has ingredients that you can't even pronounce is something you want to avoid. If it is packaged, it needs to only have a few ingredients, not read like a list of a laboratory experiment. Try to stick with lean meats, fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grain breads with a lot of fiber (a minimum of 2 grams per slice). Olive oil is the only real oil out there that hasn't been altered by man. They didn't have packages of junk food 200 years ago. In that respect, pretend its 200 years ago. When purchasing fruits and vegetables, try to go to a local farmer's market, or to a place nearby that sells local produce. If that isn't possible, sometimes it may be better to buy frozen rather than fresh. Try to buy organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains and dairy products. My theory is that antioxidants, amino acids and enzymes can do their job more efficiently when pesticide residues are not present. There is such a thing as organic meat. The easiest place to find it is your local butcher shop, or health food store. You'll find organic ground beef and organic chicken at Safeway and Trader Joe's markets. Whole Foods market has an even greater selection of organic meats. Get at least 7 hours of sleep each day If you get less than 7 hours of sleep, you'll be sabatoging your weight loss efforts, as sleep deprivation may create lower leptin levels. The example meal plans at the end of law 13 were written for a person sleeping 8 hours. Go on to Law 8 | ||
